Practising Privileges Contract

The granting of practising privileges to a healthcare professional in this hospital but not employed, permits them to practice within Akessa Healthcare. Akessa Healthcare recognises its obligation to ensure the quality of care given to patients and its responsibility to ensure that medical practitioners who receive privileges to practice are of an acceptable and satisfactory standard. The practitioner will be encouraged to use all available equipment and instrumentation, and if any additional items are required, this will have to be attached to this contract so that a financial and benefit analysis will be made prior to granting of the practising privileges.

Responsibility of the Practitioner

1. To act in accordance with this policy and the terms and conditions of the practising privileges granted, as this policy and those terms of conditions are amended from time to time.

2. To effect and maintain all necessary professional and other registrations and memberships appropriate to his or her private / independent practice. In particular the practitioner shall participate in an appropriate practice review system, supported by the maintenance of a GMC revalidation folder to ensure continuing, externally verified, fitness to practice.

3. To provide on request, documentary evidence of medical defence organisation membership and General Medicine Council registration. Such documents must be provided within 14 days of request.

4. To notify the Hospital of any matters pertaining to health or disciplinary action that may affect the performance of the Healthcare Professional or the Health and Safety of patients and staff.

5. To keep confidential and not to disclose to a third-party information relating to the business or financial affairs of this hospital, or matters and information regarding clinical governance data, unless required to do so by regulatory or statutory authorities or by prevailing medical ethics.

6. To comply with UK legislation and regulation for example the General data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and Access to Health Records Act.

7. To participate in Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN) data submission.

You also have a duty to report:

• Infections or surgical site infections
• Cancellation of appointments/surgery and reason
• Return to theatres.
• Unplanned transfer to another hospital
• Unplanned cancellations
• Complications
• Death

Please note that any complaints regarding your practice, will be redirected to yourself for action.

Review of the Practising Privileges

This Policy will be reviewed annually. A healthcare professional may require a more frequent review if concerns are raised about their professional practice.

To grant, review, restrict, suspend or withdraw practising privileges on an objective, impartial basis after taking into account all relevant matters including but not restricted to:

1. The interests of the patient

2. The interests of other health professionals with practising privileges

3. The interest of the staff at the clinic

4. The interest of the practitioner

5. To keep confidential and not disclose to third parties, any information relating to the business or financial affairs of the Practitioner.

6. To provide Practitioners with information and data which would support their demonstrating fitness to practice for inclusion in their GMC revalidation folder.
