What to Expect During the Procedure
A combined gastroscopy and colonoscopy at Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital is a safe and efficient procedure:
- Preparation – You’ll receive instructions on dietary restrictions and a bowel preparation kit before your procedure.
- Sedation (Optional) – Light sedation is available for a more comfortable experience.
- Gastroscopy First – A flexible endoscope is inserted through the mouth to examine the upper digestive tract.
- Colonoscopy Next – A colonoscope is inserted through the rectum to inspect the large intestine.
- Biopsy & Polyp Removal – If necessary, tissue samples or polyps are taken for further analysis.
- Recovery – The procedure takes approximately 45-60 minutes, with a short recovery period before discharge.
