Having obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in medical biochemistry at King’s College London, Mr Shukla remained there to study medicine and surgery, qualifying in 2012.
He underwent higher surgical training in otolaryngology and head & neck surgery on the Oxford rotation, at the John Radcliffe and Churchill Hospitals. Then undertook an advanced fellowship in head and neck surgery at Charing Cross Hospital.
Mr Shukla was admitted to the GMC’s Specialist Register for Otolaryngology in 2022, with consultant posts following. He continues to advance his own skills at centres of excellence and add to those within his profession.
His pioneering approach to drainless neck surgery has helped to promote safer day case procedures, part of his wish to focus on patient needs.
Mr Shukla believes that the best outcomes for patients can only be achieved with careful clinical selection and planning. To ensure complex decisions are fully considered and shared, or where helpful, discussed with a multidisciplinary team.
Whether he is treating infections, hearing loss, unexplained nose bleeds, or offering significant surgery, the same principle applies. His patients needs and good outcomes for them are at the forefront of decisions.
Research & Teaching
Mr Shukla is one of the few surgeons in the UK to perform day case, drainless neck, salivary gland and thyroid surgery. He has continually improved this area and believes that sharing the skills developed is vital to wider progress.
He is actively involved in teaching doctors, nurses and other health professionals. His presentations at national and international conferences are welcomed, as are the peer reviewed articles he has published on thyroid, or head and neck surgery.
Mr Shukla dedicates part of his time to serve as a Lead Tutor for head and neck anatomy, at the University of Oxford.
