Dr Moghal graduated in medicine from the University of Sheffield in 2002. He completed further medical training, including general practice qualifications, before focusing on a specialty he regarded as vital to overall health and wellbeing.
He went on to earn a Diploma in Sport & Exercise Medicine through the Royal College of Surgeons, studying within the Oxford Deanery. This was followed by a Master’s degree in Sport, Exercise & Health from University College London.
In 2015, Dr Moghal was admitted to the GMC’s specialist register for sport and exercise medicine. Since then, he has worked with both individual patients and leading national sports organisations.
Currently, he is the lead physician for the England men’s cricket team, providing care during domestic and international tours. His previous role with the English Institute of Sport involved supporting a diverse group of Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
Dr Moghal has travelled extensively as part of elite medical teams, including to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, as well as World Cups, European Championships, Commonwealth Games and two Paralympic Games.
He has significant expertise in diagnosing and managing both acute and long-term sports injuries and musculoskeletal conditions. His patients benefit from carefully considered treatment plans designed to reduce pain and restore physical function.
He believes that whether someone is an elite athlete, an amateur sportsperson, or simply enjoys staying active, they deserve the same high standard of care. This ethos underpins his patient-focused approach.
Research & Teaching
Dr Moghal is active in education and has served as a clinical examiner for a Master’s programme in Sport & Exercise Medicine. He has also mentored doctors through the higher specialist training scheme within the Oxford Deanery.
His recent research has explored the effects of Covid-19 on elite athletes, including recovery timelines and long-term consequences. He has also contributed to broader research in sports medicine, with a focus on enhancing diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes.
