Regaining Movement

Rheumatology is a medical specialty that focuses on diagnosing and treating a wide range of musculoskeletal and systemic autoimmune conditions.

While rheumatoid arthritis is perhaps the most well-known condition managed by rheumatologists, they also treat numerous other disorders, many of which are related to inflammation and issues affecting the immune system.

The treatment for these conditions can be complex and at the early stages, the disease can be difficult to identify.

Our consultant rheumatologist will use diagnostic tools such as x-rays, MRI or blood tests to help accurately diagnose the condition. A personal plan can then be put in place so that treatment can begin as early as possible.

Treatment may involve medication, injections, physiotherapy or joint replacements. Often support will be needed from other specialist clinical teams in the hospital for example physiotherapists, occupational therapists and psychologists.

The main goal of treatment is to relieve pain as much as possible, recover movement and help you live a normal life.
