Skin Lesions

What Are Skin Lesions?
A skin lesion is any abnormal lump, bump, spot, or sore on the skin. These may be harmless (benign) or require further investigation to rule out more serious conditions, including skin cancer. Skin lesions can be present from birth or develop over time due to sun exposure, infection, or underlying health conditions.
Types of Skin Lesions We Treat
Our dermatologists are highly experienced in diagnosing and managing a wide range of skin lesions, including:
- Moles (nevi)
- Skin tags
- Warts and verrucas
- Cysts
- Seborrheic keratoses
- Actinic keratoses (precancerous)
- Basal cell carcinoma
- Squamous cell carcinoma
- Melanoma (malignant skin cancer)
When to See a Dermatologist
Early detection is key, especially for suspicious or changing lesions. Book an appointment if you notice:
- A new growth or lesion
- Changes in size, shape, or colour of an existing mole
- Lesions that itch, bleed, or do not heal
- Rapidly growing lumps or scaly, crusted patches
- Lesions on sun-exposed areas such as the face, neck, or arms
Diagnosis
During your consultation, your dermatologist will:
- Conduct a thorough skin examination
- Use a dermatoscope for closer inspection
- Assess your personal and family history
- Recommend a biopsy or removal if needed for further analysis
We use the latest diagnostic tools to ensure accurate evaluation and peace of mind.
Treatment Options
Treatment is tailored to the nature of the lesion and your individual needs. Options may include:
Benign Lesions:
- Cryotherapy (freezing)
- Shave or surgical excision
- Laser removal (for cosmetic concerns)
- Topical treatments for warts or keratoses
Suspicious or Malignant Lesions:
- Surgical excision with histological analysis
- Mohs micrographic surgery (if indicated)
- Referral for oncology input, if cancer is detected
All procedures are carried out by experienced specialists under safe, sterile conditions.
