Why intensity matters
Research shows that higher therapy intensity—measured in active minutes, not just session count—drives faster functional gains after stroke or spinal cord injury. Our programmes are designed around:
- Real‑world task practice and technology‑assisted repetition (robotics, VR, anti‑gravity treadmill).
- Minimum 3 hours/day of active therapy time (combined physio, OT, SLT, psychology, etc.) for most patients, scaled to tolerance.
- Short, focused blocks to reduce fatigue and maximise repetition.

Your first 72 hours
Day 0–1: Comprehensive Assessment
- Medical and nursing review on arrival
- Baseline measures (e.g., FIM/FAM, SCIM, Berg, 10MWT, MoCA depending on condition)
- Individual goal‑setting session with key therapists and you/your family
Day 2–3: Personalised Timetable Issued
- Early wins and safety priorities addressed first (transfers, swallowing, seating)
- Drafted by your Lead Therapist and agreed with you
- Therapy blocks scheduled between meal and rest times
Daily Timetable for Inpatient Example
(Exact times vary by each patient needs, fatigue and technology bookings. Below illustrates a typical week.)

Group vs 1:1 sessions
We blend formats to maximise motivation and efficiency:
- 1:1 sessions for complex handling, early mobility, swallowing, or sensitive goals
- Small groups (2–4) for upper limb bootcamps, education classes, or cognition workshops
- Peer‑led practice supported by therapy assistants to boost repetition safely

Technology-enabled rehab
You’ll see our advanced kit throughout the timetable—but always as part of a personalised plan:
- Cough‑assist & ventilator weaning equipment (for high‑level SCI)
- Exoskeletons & robotic gait trainers
- Anti‑gravity treadmill
- MindMotion GO & other VR/AR platforms
- Saebo & Bioness for upper limb neuromodulation
MDT reviews & goal setting
- Weekly MDT meeting: all disciplines + you/your family
- Goals tracked visibly on your bedside board and patient portal
- Adjustments made quickly if fatigue, pain, or medical events change capacity
Measuring progress & outcomes
We publish aggregate gains Individually, you’ll receive:
- Start, mid‑point and discharge outcome scores
- Video comparisons (e.g., gait at week 1 vs week 4)
- A comprehensive discharge report for your GP/insurer/case manager
Guest Accommodation for Family and Loved Ones
We understand how important it is for patients to have their family and loved ones nearby during rehabilitation. To support this, we offer modern guest accommodation located conveniently on the hospital grounds.
Our one- and two-bedroom self-contained flats are newly refurbished, providing a clean, comfortable, and private space for family and friends. Each flat includes essential amenities, allowing guests to stay close without compromising on comfort or convenience.
By staying nearby, your loved ones can remain actively involved in your recovery journey—providing emotional support and participating in family-focused care planning when appropriate.
