Through London Deanery, specialist surgical training followed at a range of respected UK hospitals. Fellowships in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery enhanced his knowledge, at dedicated centres in the US & Belgium.
Being added to the GMC’s Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery in 2008 saw Professor Mosahebi take up posts at leading hospitals. Offering surgical support to meet congenital, cosmetic and reconstructive needs.
He was the first UK surgeon to perform Vaser (ultrasound-assisted) liposuction and is renowned for treatment relating to facial rejuvenation. His skills are equally helpful for tissue reconstruction after trauma, or cancer surgery.
Professor Mosahebi’s pioneering work in wound healing is valuable to patients, as is his experience in complex, microsurgical reconstruction.
Above all, his personalised approach to patient care makes a difference to treatment and outcome. His wish to “get into the patient’s mind”, by listening to them and carefully discussing available treatment options.
Research & Teaching
Professor Mosahebi’s pioneering research on stem cell technology and tissue regeneration has helped to improve reconstructive outcomes. An important need after serious accidents, other trauma, or surgical cancer treatment.
Further research he has been involved in includes studies on breast cancer and reconstruction, the language of scars, shock wave therapy and facial remodelling. His research on how plastic surgery is perceived within the medical profession has been helpful.
This assists in improving patient safety and spreading the word on the value of plastic surgery, a task befitting someone at the head of their profession.
Alongside serving as an Honorary Professor at University College London, Professor Moshahebi is a member of the UK’s Specialist Advisory Committee on plastic surgery. He heads up one of the UK’s largest plastic surgery training centres, at the Royal Free Hospital.
He also finds time to edit the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, along with authoring scientific publications and lecturing around the globe.
Professor Mosahebi has been as responsible as anyone for improving knowledge on plastic surgery. Through public TV appearances, or as a council member for organisations such as the Royal Society of Medicine and British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
