Mr Wail Ahmed is a highly skilled Consultant in Spinal Injuries with a deep commitment to improving outcomes for individuals affected by spinal cord damage. He brings international training and experience to his role at The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital.
His clinical interests lie in advanced neuro-urodynamic assessment, urological interventions, and surgical treatment of pressure ulcers. With a strong academic background and hands-on expertise, Mr Ahmed offers a compassionate, evidence-based approach to complex spinal injury rehabilitation.
Mr Wail Ahmed earned his medical degree (MBBS) from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Khartoum in Sudan in 2002. His postgraduate training took him across the UK and Ireland, where he obtained the Intercollegiate Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (IMRCS) through the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2008. He went on to pursue a Master of Science in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery from the University of Warwick, awarded in 2013.
Mr Ahmed completed his Higher Specialist Training in Spinal Cord Injuries Rehabilitation in 2017 under Health Education Thames Valley (formerly Oxford Deanery). He was subsequently awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Rehabilitation Medicine the same year.
In recognition of his ongoing contributions to the field, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 2018 and later became a Fellow of the European Board of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (FEBPRM) in 2021.
Mr Ahmed has joined The Royal Buckinghamshire Hospital where he continues to provide highly specialised spinal rehabilitation care.
Research & Teaching
Mr Ahmed is actively involved in academic publishing and medical education. As a first author, he has published five papers in peer-reviewed journals and contributed a co-authored chapter on “Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation” in the Oxford Textbook of Neurological Surgery (2019 edition).
His research includes studies on imaging in spinal cord-injured patients with sepsis and long-term functional outcomes following major trauma. His publications have received citations in several international journals, underlining the relevance and impact of his work in the fields of neurotrauma and rehabilitation medicine.
In addition to his clinical and research responsibilities, Mr Ahmed supports the training of junior doctors and therapists, sharing his specialised knowledge in spinal cord injury care and complex rehabilitation strategies.
