Mr McCulloch qualified in medicine in 2009, from the University of Birmingham. A natural aptitude for surgery and interest in orthopaedics saw him undergo surgical training on the Oswestry rotation, then registrar training on the Oxford orthopaedic rotation.
Specialist fellowships added to his knowledge, at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Middlesex and Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. Mr McCulloch was also awarded the British Orthopaedic Association travelling fellowship.
Much of this time was focused on hip and knee reconstruction, or the management of periprosthetic joint infection. Areas where Mr McCulloch continues to provide expert care, since entering the GMC’s Specialist Register for Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery, in 2020.
Alongside supporting his private patients, he currently serves as a Consultant at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, the largest, specialist orthopaedic hospital in the country.
Equally important to him is the manner in which he provides this support. A belief in listening to his patients and tailoring care leads his work, bringing greater understanding and better outcomes.
This applies whether Mr McCulloch is assisting with a sports injury, or returning lost mobility to reinstate normal life. He appreciates each patient’s needs and is focused on providing solutions.
Research & Teaching
Mr McCulloch holds a Masters degree in Medical Education and is committed to taking surgery forward. He helps to train the next generation of surgeons, is an advanced trauma life support instructor and teaches on FRCS examination courses.
As a member of the national, orthopaedic specialty advisory committee and through practical support, he guides the training of future orthopaedic surgeons.
Research he has been directly involved in focuses on revision arthroplasty and periprosthetic joint infection. This has been of value to patients with rare disorders, such as skeletal dysplasia and adds further knowledge to his profession.
