Mr Das qualified in medicine in 1992, from the University of Calcutta. After further training in India, he came to the UK for specialist training.
Alongside a range of surgical training, Mr Das focused on colorectal surgery, He spent three years on a research fellowship in inflammatory bowel disease, at St Mark’s Hospital, then higher surgical training in the South East Thames London rotation.
Following admittance to the GMC’s Specialist Register for General Surgery in 2014, Mr Das took up consultancy posts in Northamptonshire, Surrey and Bedfordshire.
They included serving as clinical governance lead for colorectal surgery at a major trust. Taking forward aspects of patient safety and good practice is important to Mr Das, as is using minimalist techniques where possible.
Keyhole, or laparascopic surgery can be good options for the conditions he often treats. For most areas of colorectal, or abdominal surgery, or gynaecological conditions, they help to reduce complications and improve recovery time.
Part of improving patient care, which Mr Das enhances by helping patients make decisions that are right for them, leading to the best possible outcomes.
Research & Teaching
Mr Das is a keen medical educator and regularly teaches higher surgical trainees, including serving as a clinical teacher at University College London.
His current research focus includes colorectal cancer treatment, complex major abdominal wall reconstruction and improving surgery for inflammatory bowel disease.
