Dr Nilay Chatterjee is a Consultant in Pain Medicine. He has extensive experience in assessing and treating complex acute and chronic pain conditions. He is a substantive consultant at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is one of the UK’s leading tertiary centres. Dr Chatterjee has previously trained and worked in renowned institutions across the UK, the Middle East, and India.
Dr Chatterjee has particular expertise in chronic back and neck pain, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), joint-related pain, headaches, and neuropathic pain. His clinical practice focuses on advanced interventional pain procedures. These include spine and joint injections, radiofrequency denervation, and image-guided techniques. He delivers these as part of a personalised and multidisciplinary approach. He strongly emphasises clear communication and shared decision-making. He aims to help patients regain function and quality of life.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Chatterjee is active in research and education. He has authored or co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed scientific publications in anaesthesia and pain medicine. He regularly contributes to teaching and training at both local and national levels. His academic interests include interventional pain techniques, complex pain syndromes, and service development.
Dr Chatterjee is a member of several professional bodies. These include the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, the Royal College of Anaesthetists, The European Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Therapy, and other relevant national and international pain societies.
