Dr Weatherall qualified in medicine from the University of Cambridge, in 1997. After further training at Whittington Hospital in London and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, he took an early decision to focus on neurology.
Specialist training followed in Nottingham, Oxford, Preston and Manchester, then a clinical research fellowship at the Institute of Neurology. Soon after this in 2006, Dr Weatherall was admitted to the GMC’s Specialist Register for Neurology.
Consultancy posts followed, at Ealing Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare Trust and at key hospitals in Buckinghamshire. Dr Weatherall supports patients across the spectrum of neurological conditions, with a particular focus on headache disorders and migraine.
Those topics featured in his research and have since occupied much of his work. Migraine and other severe headache disorders can be harrowing conditions and Dr Weatherall is sought out to assist with difficult cases.
The care and insight Dr Weatherall provides is welcomed by patients, who he treats as individuals, sharing their wish to return life to normal.
Research & Teaching
Research topics Dr Weatherall has worked on include trials of CGRP antibodies in cluster headache, persistent migraine and the premonitory phase of migraine. He has researched the use of cannabis based treatment and electrical nerve stimulation.
The Times, Telegraph, Sun and Daily Mail have called upon Dr Weatherall to share his knowledge on headache related topics, as have ITV and the BBC. He is equally pleased to bring helpful ideas to colleagues.
This includes multiple articles in peer-reviewed journals, along with teaching medical students, doctors and consultants. Dr Weatherall believes that spreading knowledge on headache disorders will widen the support available.
Having forged early writing skills as an editor of the Cambridge undergraduate newspaper Varsity, Dr Weatherall’s papers tend to be readable. His presentations at national, or international conferences are equally well received.
