Dr Krishna Bakhshi is a Consultant in Pain Medicine with over 30 years’ experience in assessing and treating both acute and chronic pain conditions. He works closely with patients to improve comfort, mobility and overall quality of life, combining extensive clinical experience with a thoughtful and supportive approach to care.
Dr Bakhshi graduated in medicine from Southampton University Medical School in 1983. After early training in general and emergency medicine, he specialised in anaesthesia and pain medicine at leading London centres including St Bartholomew’s Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital and the Eastman Dental Hospital.
In 1996 he was appointed Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia at Stoke Mandeville Hospital within Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. During his long NHS career he helped develop and expand a modern multidisciplinary pain service and served as Clinical Lead for the Chronic Pain Service for ten years. He retired from NHS practice in December 2025 after nearly three decades as a consultant.
Dr Bakhshi has extensive experience in the management of a wide range of pain conditions including spinal pain, neck and back pain, sciatica, neuropathic pain, musculoskeletal pain, peripheral nerve pain and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). He has a particular interest in interventional pain treatments such as radiofrequency denervation, image-guided spinal injections and targeted nerve blocks.
Throughout his career he has worked closely with multidisciplinary teams including physiotherapists, psychologists and specialist pain nurses, helping to develop comprehensive patient-centred treatment programmes. His clinical work has also included close collaboration with the National Spinal Injuries Centre, supporting patients with complex pain following spinal injury.
Dr Bakhshi understands the significant impact long-term pain can have on daily life. He takes time to listen carefully to each patient and provides a calm, reassuring and individualised approach to care. His aim is not only to reduce pain but also to help patients regain confidence, independence and a greater sense of control over their health.
He now offers private consultations in Pain Medicine, providing detailed assessment and personalised treatment plans for patients experiencing both acute and persistent pain conditions.
Research & Training
Dr Bakhshi has been actively involved in Pain Medicine since 1988 and received formal specialist training in both adult and paediatric pain management at major teaching hospitals including St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.
During his consultant career he played a key role in developing a multidisciplinary chronic pain service within Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. Over time, the service expanded from a single-consultant model into a comprehensive team including consultants, specialist pain nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and clinical psychologists. This collaborative approach ensured patients received integrated care addressing both the physical and psychological aspects of chronic pain.
He continues to apply this multidisciplinary philosophy in his private practice, working closely with colleagues across musculoskeletal medicine, rehabilitation and spinal injury care.
