Mr El-Shunnar graduated in medicine from Trinity College Dublin in 2007, with an honour’s degree. His love for ENT Surgery developed whilst serving as a junior doctor in the Oxford region and has never left him.
Following specialist training at UK centres, Mr El-Shunnar travelled to Auckland, New Zealand, To undertake an internationally renowned fellowship in endoscopic sinus surgery, along with head and neck cancer surgery.
He was admitted to the GMC’s specialist register for otolaryngology in 2019. Consultancy posts followed, supporting patients directly and serving as Clinical Director for ENT at a Midlands hospital group.
Mr El-Shunnar’s special interests include thyroid, or salivary gland treatment, sinus problems and facial plastic surgery after removal of skin cancer lesions.
He is equally happy to help with hoarseness, discomfort, or lumps in the throat, speaking, or swallowing disorders. With the same level of diagnostic attention and treatment given to each patient he sees.
Mr El-Shunnar understands that attending a hospital appointment can be daunting and seeks to allay concerns. His effective but kind approach helps patients to feel at ease, a contribution in itself to successful recovery.
Research & Teaching
Mr El-Shunnar has presented nationally and internationally, along with publishing a number of peer reviewed papers. He lectures and examines for the Universities of Warwick and Buckingham and helps to teach GPs, or doctors in training.
He sees this as a way to indirectly support all patients, along with other activities. Mr El-Shunnar sits on the South Warwickshire elective division governance board and is actively involved in patient safety reviews, or investigations.
