Mr Perkins graduated in medicine from the University of Bristol in 1988. With a natural aptitude for surgery, he pursued specialist training in the field and was admitted to the GMC’s Specialist Register for General Surgery in 1999.
He has since held consultancy positions in the Oxford area, treating a wide range of vascular conditions. His leadership roles include serving as Clinical Lead for the Thames Valley Vascular Network and Director of the Thames Valley Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme.
In addition to expertise in arterial and venous diseases, Mr Perkins has a particular interest in aortic aneurysms and carotid artery disease. He is also highly regarded for his comprehensive assessment and treatment of varicose veins, a common vascular issue linked to circulation problems.
Recognising that vascular health is influenced by factors such as smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, and genetics, Mr. Perkins takes a personalised approach, carefully assessing each patient’s needs and planning for their long-term well-being.
Research & Teaching
Mr. Perkins’ research has focused on the incidence and outcomes of acute aortic dissection, as well as the management of premorbid risk factors. His work has been closely linked to findings from the Oxford Vascular Study and the Oxford Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Study, both of which he has supported.
He has also contributed to studies examining the effects of foam sclerotherapy on ulcer healing and the combined use of heparin and graduated compression stockings for deep vein thrombosis. Additionally, Mr. Perkins has served as a peer reviewer for research publications within his field.
