Mr Bottrill obtained his medical degree from Southampton University in 1986. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 1991, along with starting out on a distinguished career in his chosen field
His initial ENT training took place in London, at the Royal National Throat, Nose & Ear Hospital (RNTNEH) then at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.
A one year fellowship followed, at Tufts University Medical School in Boston, USA. An opportunity to work on newly developing laser applications in ear surgery and approaches for treating Meniere’s disease.
On his return to the UK, Mr Bottrill held senior posts in Cambridge and at the RNTNEH. Following a gold medal winning pass of his final FRCS(ORL) examination, he entered the GMCs Specialist Register in Otolaryngology in 1997.
Consultancy posts followed, at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and Stoke Mandeville in Aylesbury. The latter close to our hospital, where Mr Cottrill offers all round support to meet outpatient and surgical ENT needs.
His special interests include ear disease and infection, cholesteatoma, otosclerosis and Eustachian tube problems. He is a national expert in the use of gentamicin for Meniere’s disease and provides a regional service for bone anchored hearing aids.
A reflection of the respect Mr Bottrill commands within his profession, although the individual care he provides to patients is as important to him.
